Summer is nearly here. Soon, kids will be out and bored before you know it. We’ve rounded up a few fun summer activities for kids in Charlottesville, VA.

Summer Camps

Do your children love camps? Charlottesville area has a camp to fit everyone’s interests. There are camps with an academic focus, like space camp (which is also just plain fun). There are art camps and sports camps and there are also residential and specialty camps. One of these is the Triple C Camp.

“Triple C Camp exists to provide children a safe, fun, experience in a traditional camp environment. Everyone at Triple C learns about themselves as well as working with others, all while creating positive lifelong memories.”

City Market

The iconic City Market is located in downtown Charlottesville. They have a diverse selection of fresh and prepared food for the whole family to enjoy. Enjoy fresh flowers and herbs. Also, you will find goods such as handmade jewelry and clothes.

The Hatton Ferry

The Hatton Ferry is an amazing piece of history for your family to experience! It’s the only poled ferry left in America! It is a unique opportunity that everyone should try at least once while it is still around. It’s located 5.5 miles west of Scottsville on the James River. Their operating hours are Saturday 9 AM – 5 PM and Sundays Noon-5 PM. It is a non-profit organization that relies on donations. The suggested donations are $5 per person and $10 per vehicle.

Rocky Top Climbing

Rocky Top Climbing has Charlottesville’s only indoor climbing walls. If your child loves to climb, then this is the place for them. You can let them burn off some of that extra energy. They also offer classes if you or your child is a little nervous about climbing. 

You can also host your next party there by appointment. Don’t be concerned if you are a newbie at rock climbing. Their website informs us that, 

“All age and ability ranges are welcome.”

Their hours are: 

Monday – Friday: 3:00 pm to 9:00 pm

Saturday & Sunday: 11:00 am to 7:00 pm

Swimming pools

We also have a number of options for swimming pools in Charlottesville. The City of Charlottesville website lists information for four different pools. One being the Onesty Family Aquatic Center, they offer “Water Slides, In-Water Playgrounds, Lazy River, Diving Board, Lap Lanes, Zero-Depth Play Area, Obstacle Course, Lockers, Restrooms, Family Changing Room, Snack Bar.” Be sure and check out their website for more options.
